How To: Lock Down Your ListenToChurch Stream

Log in to ListenToChurch with your Manager level credentials. Once logged in to Your Listening Page, click the Manage icon.

Once logged into the administrative site, go down to User Groups.  In User Groups, we can create a group that can be used to provision access to your locked-down stream. Click Add User Group.

When creating the User Group, it is recommended to use something unique that identifies the congregation. The naming convention is up to you, but when searching for the group, you will need to search through the global list of all groups created. Provide a name for the group, then add the users you want to provide access to.

Next, you will go to Conference Bridges, and from the bridge you wish to lock down, click on Edit.

In Edit Conference Bridges, select Permissions.

In the permissions tab:

  1. Select the Group you wish to have access to the Conference Bridge or Stream.

  2. If applicable, add any additional individual users not part of said Group you wish to have access to the stream.

  3. Next, set Conference Authorization (Auth) Level to Locked.

  4. Set Mount/Stream Authorization Level to WhiteList Only.

The Stream/Conference Bridge will now be locked down to only members of the group specified, and any individual users added. Noone else will be able to access the Stream.

There is a second way to lock down your stream as well, without using a User Group. To do this, lock down your stream in the same way as above, without specifying a group or individual users.

Next, go to the User Bookmarks/Whitelist workspace.

From here, click Add on any users you wish to have access to the Stream/Conference Bridge. As it is a global list, you may want to use the search feature to find individual users.

Once added, you will see a checkmark beside their name, letting you know they now have access.

Each user added will have access to the stream. Congratulations, you have now made your streaming event or conference bridge private, and learned two ways to manage access to the stream.

Secure and Private Streaming Considerations:

When considering a private broadcast session be aware that the security stack inherent in ListenToChurch only goes so far. As in any security concern, your stream is only as secure as the weakest link. Be aware that the more people with access to the stream, the more weak points are potentially added to the security of the stream. Social engineering efforts can compromise the users to provide access to undesired people, weak passwords can allow the stream to be hacked.

ListenToChurch recommends that if security is a concern, and a private broadcast is considered, to limit access to the smallest number of users possible, and that the users selected are instructed on best practices such as password length and complexity.
